Devasthavili- An Indo-Spanish ritual art form.it serves as spiritual exercises which intone the mind of the people for reflecting about the momentary span of life for effecting spiritual contrition and reconciliation.
It is in mid night,the people at large in slumber,when the world is under the clutches of deep silence and dark a group of people comes through the blackened narrow ways with wooden crosses and wooden bells. They break the deep silence of the world by hauling like thunder. They kneel down and look up to heaven close their ears with fingers and with eyes closed cries out mysteries. The bells ring. Even if it breaks the sound sleep the people are in peace to hear Devasthe call, as they believe that they are in the hands of God. The bell is over and the heaven is opened for them by the loud cry of a devoted group, who live in penance and fasting. |
